Health and Safety Advisor

Summary of role:

To provide a professional SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality) advisory service to Coalo Limited. A core aspect of this role will be to embed improved operational practices to ensure continuous improvement in performance and compliance with the Coalo Limited Health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy.

This includes the development, implementation, promotion and review of the Integrated Management System and associated policies/procedures across the business, managing non-conformance and continual improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To develop, implement and monitor SHEQ policies, management procedures, systems and guidance across a range of safety critical and statutory areas both departmentally and corporately as required.
  • Support the SHEQ Manager in ensuring the Coalo management systems comply to ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.
  • To plan and complete detailed quality, environmental and health & safety audits as part of Coalo’s audit programme against standards, legislation and regulations. Identifying actions, trends and monitoring and closing of corrective actions to maintain continuous improvement.
  • To support departmental senior leadership teams in managing SHEQ by providing quarterly performance reports, as well as assisting with the development of annual SHEQ plans.
  • Prepare and distribute regular Toolbox talks and SHEQ alerts as required. Training operational management to deliver talks and alerts.
  • To support managers in their understanding and use of the risk assessment process to ensure all significant risks are properly and proportionally assessed and recorded.
  • To consult and liaise with the HSE, health and safety groups, Trade Unions, other interested parties, stakeholders, local authorities and organisations
  • To develop, implement, deliver and evaluate SHEQ training including e-learning.
  • Preparation of Construction Phase Plans in accordance with CDM2015.
  • To investigate significant or serious incidents and to advise, report and make recommendations on any necessary local or corporate action, including reporting to enforcement agencies e.g. RIDDOR
  • To support managers in their understanding and use of the risk assessment process to ensure all significant risks are properly and proportionally assessed and recorded.
