World Aids Day
1 December 2020
Today, 1st December is World Aids day.
Each World AIDS Day focuses on a specific theme, the theme this year is Global solidarity, shared responsibility. This year’s theme joins a growing list of challenges that World AIDS Day has alerted people to globally.
In 2020, the world’s attention has been focused on the COVID-19 pandemic its impact on our health and how pandemics affect lives and livelihoods. COVID-19 is showing us once again how health is interlinked with other critical issues, such as reducing inequality, human rights, gender equality, social protection and economic growth.
World AIDS Day remains as relevant today as it’s always been, reminding people and governments that HIV has not gone away. There is still a critical need to increase awareness of the impact of HIV on people’s lives, to end stigmatisation and discrimination and to improve the quality of life for people living with HIV.
